As a Technical Artist on the Wave team, I played a key role in creating the world's first multi-channel virtual entertainment platform for live concerts. From May to September 2021, I worked on the collaboration between Wave, Riot Games, and The Mill, to bring a live interactive virtual concert experience for Riot’s virtual metal band, Pentakill.
My responsibilities included creating visuals, optimizing for mobile platforms, writing and maintaining technical documentation, developing dynamic lighting solutions, communicating technical needs between art and design teams, improving workflows, solving tech issues, researching and developing technical tools in the engine, and exploring limitations with mobile devices.
I was the Tech Artist on the Wave side, where I was responsible for interaction design and implementation, content integration, live broadcast execution, and technical art tasks. Working closely with The Mill, I helped integrate all of their content and ensure everything was done correctly for the live virtual concert.
In the early stages of production, I collaborated with the Riot music division and other team members at Wave to turn the epic narrative into a live and interactive format, resulting in a team-based mechanic where 3 teams competed against each other during the show, with a leaderboard at the end showing the winner.
The virtual concert was performed live from Digital Domain’s motion capture studio in September, utilizing Giant for motion capture and head-mounted iPhones for face capture. The success of this project was a testament to my technical skills, creativity, and ability to work effectively with a team.
